Located in the norther hemispher,korea has four distinct seasons and belongs to cool temperature climate. also setting in the estern edge of asia and due to the seasonal wind, the continental climate thas has a large annual temperature differences is realized.
so called spring comes after winter passes,but it is ussually interrupted by a cold snap
which is called 꽃샘추위 (kotsame chuwi) which means the metaphore of saying winter gets jealous of flower blooming of spring to come. following the cold snap is a spring,which may fickle but is generally clear and warm. however,due to yellow dust that comes from china,peoples sometimes suffer. yellow dust rides air currents from Gobi Desert and hwang River due to the geogrephic closeness between china and korea, and can cause some hardship to residents of korea.
In summer there is a rainy season,largely influence by the sea of okhotst and pacific ocean. when the rainy ends,humidity id quit high and there are occasional passing rains.
In recent yers, temperature has been as high at night as it during the day, and this tropical nigths phenomenon 열대야 현상(yuldeaya hyunsang) has made it difficult for some people to fall asleep.
During fall, you can look at high and clear blue sky and since the weather is very cool. enjoying good weather is possible as well. Also the phrase 천고마비의 계절 (chugo mabiue gyejeol-season of reading) that means a season when the sky is high and horse gets fat, 독서의 계절 (dokseoue gyejeol -seasons of greetings) can be said to have come from the good weather during fall.
During winter,it is very cold since it is influenced by high atmospheric pressure of seberia and quiet is dry. in the past , there was a phenomenon called 삼한 사온 (samhan saon), a cycle of 3 cold days and 4 warm days, in recent years,however 삼한 사온has not often occurred most likely due to a global warming and rising temperatures.
